Conference visas are issued for international conferences, or seminars and workshops on certain subjects if delegates are able to produce an invitation from:
A Ministry or Department of the Government of India
Public Sector Undertakings
Central Educational Institutions
Public Funded University or an organization owned and controlled by the Government of India or State Government, UN or its specialized agencies and reputed NGOs.
If the conference/seminar/workshop is being organized in India by private companies, the applicant should apply for the shortest duration business visa available. If approved, a 3 month single entry business visa will be granted.
Please note the visa is valid beginning on the day it is issued. So a 3 month visa issued on January 1 would be valid until March 31.
Photos must be 2x2in on a white background taken within the past three months.
No glasses can be worn in the photos.
One photo must be pasted, not stapled, to the front of the application in the photo field.
The second photo must be pasted to the back of the application underneath the signature.
Most Recently Issued Passport
Passport must have at least two blank visa page and must be valid for seven months.

5. Copy of Valid Drivers License or Utility Bill
Address on drivers license must match address on the application.
If you do not have a drivers license you may provide a state issued ID or copy of utility bill.
Proof of Address: Applicants must submit a photocopy with proof of residence/address that matches the present address on the visa application exactly. Photocopy of state issued ID (Driver License or ID), major utility bill (Water, Gas, Electric, Sewage) or a copy of a valid/current lease containing both the landlord and tenant signatures must be submitted. Do not cut your drivers license copy down to a smaller size. Please leave the copy on regular sized paper.
6. Official Invitation Letters
Letters of invitation from the organizer of the conference in India as well as from the organization in the US which nominated the applicant to attend the conference must be included.
You must also produce an invitation from a Ministry or Department of the Government of India, State Governments, Public Sector Undertakings, Central Educational Institutions, Public Funded University or an organization owned and controlled by the Government of India or State Government, UN or its specialized agencies and reputed NGOs.
If the conference is being organized in India by private companies a 3 month single entry business visa may be issued instead.
7. Nodal Ministry Clearance
A clearance letter from the Ministry that holds jurisdiction over the conference. Example: An education conference needs a clearance letter from the Ministry of Education.
8. Original & Copy of Legal US Status
You must provide an original and copy of your legal status, i.e. Green Card, I-94, or United States Visa.
Applicants from Afghanistan, China, Iran, Pakistan, Iraq, Sudan, foreigners of Pakistani origin and Stateless persons must fill out this additional form. These applicants and those visiting restricted/protected areas can expect approval to take several weeks.
