Service update — September 1, 2026. The China consulate will be closed October 1–5, 2026 in observance of Golden Week, China's National Day holiday. No China visa applications will be accepted or processed during the closure, and travelers should expect possible China visa processing delays in the days surrounding the holiday.
Confirmed Closure: October 1–5, 2026
Golden Week begins with China's National Day on October 1 and is one of the country's most significant public holidays. During the confirmed closure window of Thursday, October 1 through Monday, October 5, 2026, the consulate will not accept new applications, process pending ones, or release passports. Applications already in the queue will resume processing when the consulate reopens.
This notice covers the closure dates confirmed for this consulate. Other Chinese diplomatic posts set their own holiday schedules, so if you are applying elsewhere, confirm that location's Golden Week hours before planning your submission.
What Golden Week Means for China Visa Processing
Consulate closures compress several days of applications into a shorter working calendar, which typically produces a backlog on both sides of the holiday:
- Before the closure — application volume rises in late September as travelers try to submit before the holiday, which can stretch appointment availability and turnaround times
- During the closure — October 1–5 are non-working days; pending applications simply wait
- After the closure — the consulate works through accumulated applications when it reopens, so early-October submissions may take longer than usual to come back
Processing times are always determined by the consulate itself, and no service provider can guarantee a government turnaround. What you can control is when your application enters the queue — and around Golden Week, earlier is meaningfully better.
When Should You Apply for a China Visa?
If you plan to apply for a China visa for travel in October or November 2026, we recommend building in extra margin:
- Traveling in October? Submit your application as early as possible in September, so it can be processed before the consulate closes
- Traveling in November? Aim to apply by early October so your application is near the front of the post-holiday queue
- Already applied? If your application is pending over the holiday, expect the closure days to add to your overall wait — factor this into flight and hotel decisions
- Not sure you need a visa? Check China visa requirements for your nationality and travel purpose before you book
These timing suggestions are prudent planning guidance, not consulate rules — the only confirmed dates are the October 1–5 closure itself.
Traveling to China During Golden Week?
Golden Week is also one of China's busiest domestic travel periods. If your trip overlaps the holiday, book intercity trains, domestic flights, and popular attractions well in advance, and expect heavier crowds at major sites between October 1 and the end of the holiday week.
