Few things improve the travel experience like skipping long security and customs lines. Two government trusted-traveler programs make that possible: TSA PreCheck for domestic security screening and Global Entry for international arrivals. Here's how to decide and how to apply in 2026.
TSA PreCheck
TSA PreCheck speeds you through airport security at domestic checkpoints — no removing shoes, belts, or laptops. It's ideal for travelers who mostly fly within the United States.
Global Entry
Global Entry includes all the benefits of TSA PreCheck and adds expedited U.S. customs clearance when returning from abroad. For anyone who travels internationally even once or twice a year, Global Entry is usually the better value because it covers both ends of the trip.
Which Should You Choose?
- Mostly domestic flyer? TSA PreCheck is sufficient.
- Travel internationally at all? Choose Global Entry — it includes PreCheck anyway.
Renewals: Don't Wait
Both memberships are valid for five years. Renewal processing has grown longer in recent years, and a lapsed membership means losing your benefits until reapproval. Start your renewal several months before expiration to avoid a gap.
