What has been reported
In an August 20, 2026 report, NDTV, citing Economic Times reporting and company executives, described difficulties securing China business visas, including lower approval rates at affected firms and disrupted business travel. Earlier, Economic Times reported on January 23, 2026 that applicants faced stretched timelines, with online preliminary review followed by physical submission. That earlier report provides context, not a current measure of approval rates.
On August 24, 2026, Economic Times reported that India's external affairs minister said the business-visa denial issue had been raised with China. This does not establish that the difficulties have been resolved.
These are attributed reports, not official nationwide rejection statistics or notice of a blanket visa ban. They do not mean every Indian passport holder will be delayed or refused. Outcomes can differ by visa category, travel purpose, supporting documents, and the office handling the application.
Online review is not the same as visa issuance
The Chinese Embassy in India's notice dated December 8, 2025 announced online form and document submission beginning December 22, 2025. Applicants should follow the relevant visa centre's current instructions for online review and subsequent passport or document submission. It would be incorrect to describe the process as entirely offline. The embassy notice confirms the application process; it does not confirm the reported delay or rejection figures.
Applying in the United States? Check your own jurisdiction
The reporting above concerns applications and businesses in India. It should not automatically be applied to Indian nationals applying in the United States. Your place of residence determines the responsible Chinese embassy or consulate, and your US immigration status and visa category can affect the documents required.

Practical steps before you travel
- Allow additional time. Begin document preparation early and confirm when your jurisdiction permits submission. Do not treat a previously quoted processing time as a guaranteed completion date.
- Avoid non-refundable commitments before issuance. Where possible, use flexible flight and accommodation options and have a contingency plan for meetings or events.
- Check the current checklist. Confirm the correct visa category, residence and legal-status evidence, passport requirements, and any in-person submission steps with the responsible post or visa centre.
- Review business invitation documents carefully. Ask your host to provide the details required by that jurisdiction, and ensure the invitation, application, employer information, and itinerary accurately describe the same trip.
- If your application is pending, respond promptly to requests. Use the official tracking or contact channel for your application office. Do not assume a delay means a refusal, or that a service provider can guarantee expedited approval.
